Liposuction
Liposuction—also known as liposculpture—is a surgical technique in which local fat deposits are suctioned away via fine cannulas to refine the body contour. It is therefore body contouring, not a weight loss method. Depending on the areas and volume, the procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia.
How does the procedure work?
The areas to be treated are marked in advance and the anesthesia is determined. Through small incisions of a few millimeters, the fat is evenly suctioned away with narrow cannulas (±2–3 mm). For limited areas, this can be done on an outpatient basis; for more extensive corrections, general anesthesia is common. Showering is usually possible quickly thanks to skin glue/dissolvable sutures.
Is this treatment suitable for you?
For those who, despite a stable weight, healthy diet and exercise, are still left with stubborn pockets of fat (e.g. abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, arms or double chin). Good skin elasticity helps for a tight result; in case of clear skin laxity, liposuction is sometimes combined with a skin-tightening procedure (e.g. tummy tuck, arm lift or thigh lift).
