Nose Correction

A nose correction, also called rhinoplasty, is a procedure that improves the shape, size or function of the nose. It can be aesthetic—for example to correct a bump on the nasal bridge, a wide nasal tip or a deviation—and functional, when nasal airflow is restricted (e.g. due to a septal deviation or after trauma). The goal is a natural result that is in balance with the rest of the face and allows comfortable breathing.

How does the procedure work?

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia, often as day surgery (you go home the same day). There are two main techniques: an open approach (with a small incision at the bottom of the nasal septum, plus inside the nose) that provides optimal visibility to reshape cartilage and bone in a targeted manner, and a closed approach (incisions only internally) that suffices for limited corrections. If necessary, the nasal septum is also corrected to improve breathing. At the end, a nasal splint is placed on the nasal bridge; tampons are not always necessary. Sutures are small and often removed after approximately one week.

Is this treatment suitable for you?

A nose correction is ideal for both men and women who are not satisfied with the appearance or proportions of the nose (bump, deviation, wide or downward tip) or experience breathing difficulties through the nose. During the consultation, your wishes, nasal anatomy and any functional factors are discussed, so that the approach truly suits you.
